The deployment of Snapper in the Auckland market has been NZ's largest scale deployment of contactless payments and Integrated Ticketing. The project is strategically important as it forms the foundation of Auckland's public transport strategy.
Miki-Szikszai, CEO Snapper Services Ltd
"Deploying Snapper in the Auckland market has been a significant challenge. It has required the precision of implementing a fully integrated ticketing system across 4 operators controlled by NZBus, the development of new capability for the Auckland market, rolling out a support network of retailers and issuing cards to close to 80,000 commuters. To add further complexity, this project also included the launch of Snapper's brand in the market and a co-branded card. This was a high risk undertaking given the need to manage the customer transition over very tight windows in a very public environment.
The outcomes have been excellent with smart card usage increased significantly compared to previous rates, customer feedback positive and stakeholders at NZBus and Auckland Transport unanimous in their view that that the relationships are strong and the transition has been smooth.
We engaged Joe to manage the project on the ground. Joe's initial brief was management and co-ordinating deployment activities with sub contractors, managing logistics and fleet availability and ensuring quality of the finished on-bus product. We extended the brief to cover co-ordination with brand activities, operational developments and the retail deployment.
Joe was able to manage this in a remote environment, working with multiple stakeholders in a changing delivery environment. The fact that this project has been delivered so smoothly is a testament to Joe's determination and skill.
